Indiana Women’s Tennis Ends Home Slate with Mountaineers

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana women's tennis will finish their home slate at the IU Tennis Center on Saturday morning with the West Virginia Mountaineers.
SERIES HISTORY
• Indiana saw their first match up against West Virginia on March 4, 2017 where they defeated the Mountaineers, 4-3 at the IU Tennis Center.

LAST TIME OUT
• The Hoosiers competed in a close match up with the Cincinnati where they defeated the Bearcats 4-3.
• Saby Nihalani was a force in the No. 2 singles match. She defeated Cincinnati's Cassie McLay, 6-1 in the first set before entering a tiebreak set winning 7-6 (7-2).
• Lara Schneider won a tough No. 1 singles match up in the Hoosiers 4-3 win over Cincinnati last Saturday. The first set started off in a tiebreak where she would fall short, 7-5, but came back to win the match 6-0, 6-3, in a dramatic finish.
ABOUT THE HOOSIERS
• The Hoosiers are off to their best start since going 8-0 in the 2017-18 season.
•The two graduates Saby Nihalani and Lauren Lemonds are 2-0 in singles and doubles matches on the season.
• Redshirt-junior Mila Mejic went 2-0 in the season opener picking up singles wins against Butler and Bellarmine. She also picked up doubles win alongside Lauren Lemonds.
• Sophomore Lara Schneider is a standout on the squad. She was named All-Big Ten selection finishing the last season with a 19-7 overall singles record and a 21-9 overall doubles record. Schneider competed in the No. 1 singles spot in all but one Big Ten match and went 4-3 in conference play.
• Senior Xiaowei "Rose" Hu won six of her seven singles matches while classmate Mila Mejic earned four single match victories during the fall season.
NEW ADDITIONS
• IU have added three new additions to their roster including two graduate transfers in Saby Nihalani and Lauren Lemonds. The duo posts a high-level of experience for the Hoosier squad.
• Lemonds was named the team MVP, an ITA Scholar-Athlete, Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honoree during her four years at Michigan State.
• In the 2021-22 season, Nihalani was a named team Captain at Wake Forest and finished with a 7-4 singles record, including 4-3 in ACC matches.
• IUWT adds freshman Nicole Teodosescu to the Spring roster. She looks to make an immediate impact this season for the Hoosiers. Teodosescu is a tough competitor with a lot of experience and has competed in nine professional 15k tournaments in the past year, accumulating three ITF women's ranking points on the year.
