Indiana Softball Dominates Day One of Lady Bison Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Indiana Softball (11-9) defeated Evansville (13-7), 5-2, behind nine strikeouts from sophomore Brianna Copeland, and Lipscomb (7-10), 11-2, in five innings with four home runs on day one of the Lady Bison Classic at Draper Diamond.
GAME 1: INDIANA 5, EVANSVILLE 2
KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana struck early in the bottom of the first scoring two runs after earning four free passes in the bottom of the inning. Sophomore Sarah Stone advanced the runners on a ground out for the early lead while freshman Avery Parker earned an RBI on the walk, 2-0.
• In the top of the third, Evansville scored two runs to tie the ball game.
• Sophomore Brianna Copeland scored a run on two errors from Evansville as she made her way around the bases to lead off the bottom of the third.
• The bases were loaded in the bottom of the fourth, Freshman Taryn Kern extended the Hoosiers lead, 4-2, on RBI fielder's choice from Copeland with the bases loaded.
• Kern hit an RBI double to center field to score senior Cora Bassett for the final run.
NOTABLES
• Copeland totaled nine strikeouts against the Aces improving to 4-0 in the circle this season.
• The Hoosiers earned 10 free passes and five stolen bases versus Evansville.
GAME 2: INDIANA 11, LIPSCOMB 3
KEY MOMENTS
• Bassett hits a leadoff home run deep into left center to start the game against the Lady Bison.
• Sophomore Taylor Minnick followed that up with another home run for the Hoosiers.
• Kern hits the Hoosiers third home run of the evening in the top of the third for two RBI, 5-2.
• Stone put the bat on the ball with another RBI double to extend the lead.
• In the top of the fourth, IU scored six runs on four hits to take a 11-2 lead. Kern doubled to left center for two RBI followed by another hit from Minnick as she scored two more.
• Senior Abby Meeks hit an RBI homer straight up the middle for her second home run this season.
• The Bison added one more run in the bottom of the fifth on a double to right field but stranded the last runner as Indiana secured the win in five.
NOTABLES
• Indiana totaled 10 hits, 10 RBI, three doubles and four home runs against the Bison.
• IU's four home runs tied for the second most in a single game.
• Kern hit her third career home run going 2-of-3 at bat scoring two runs on one double, one home run and four RBI.
• Minnick went 3-for-3 at bat totaling one run, three RBI, one double and one home run.
