Indiana Softball Heads to Lipscomb for Lady Bison Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana softball (9-9) heads to Nashville, Tenn. to compete in the Lady Bison Classic hosted by Lipscomb on March 10-12. The Hoosiers will compete against Evansville, Lipscomb and Akron at Draper Diamond Field.

LAST TIME OUT
- Softball played their first games at Andy Mohr Field this weekend after hosting their annual Hoosier Classic.
- The Hoosiers went 3-1 on the weekend with wins over Green Bay, Purdue Fort Wayne and IUPUI. IU dropped the match against Wisconsin in the first game of the double header on Sunday afternoon.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
- Evansville (13-5) went 0-4 on the weekend at the Hilltopper Spring Fling hosted by Western Kentucky. On Saturday, the Aces fell 2-1 against Austin Peay and 9-0 versus WKU.
- On day two of the Spring Fling, Akron defeated UE, 5-0, before the Aces matched up with Austin Peay again dropping the second contest, 9-1.
- Junior outfielder Jenna Nink leads the offense for the Aces. She is batting a .371 with seven runs on 13 hits, four doubles, one home run, 12 RBI and six free passes.
- Akron (7-6) finished the weekend 1-3 at the Hilltopper Spring Fling in Bowling Green, Kent. winning the contest over the Aces.
- Brooke Sivek leads the Zips offense batting .375 with 18 hits, 11 runs, three stolen bases. Pitcher Haley Croyle leads the Zips on the mound with a 1.30 ERA and a .90 WHIP. She holds a 4-1 record with one save on the season. The freshman has allowed 22 hits, seven runs and 12 walks and 39 strikeouts in 130 at bats.
- Lipscomb (7-8) hosted Providence, Youngstown State and St. Louis for their Purple and Gold Challenge at Draper Diamond last weekend. The Bisons went 3-1 on the weekend picking up a walk-off win over Youngstown State, 5-4, and a shutout win over St. Louis, 4-0. LU split the series against Providence taking the first game 8-0 and falling 4-1 in the second game.
- Senior pitcher Emily Yakubowski leads the Bison in the circle with a 48.1 innings pitched. She holds 1.28 WHIP with a 2.32 ERA on the season.
SERIES NOTES
- The Hoosiers lead the series over the Aces 27-8. In 2016, the teams competed in a double header where IU swept the series winning 8-0 and 2-1 over UE.
- IU is 1-2 against the Bison, dropping the last two games in 2019 2-0 and 3-1.
- The Hoosiers are tied 4-4 with Akron with Indiana taking the last matchup 8-1 in 2019.
POWER HITTER
- Sophomore infielder Sarah Stone hit .600 in 10 at bats at the Hoosier Classic. She totaled three runs, six hits, one home run and five RBI. She also went two-for-two in stolen bases with 20 putouts at first base.
B1G HITTERS
- Sophomore Taylor Minnick and senior Abby Meeks went off in Greensboro. The two combined for eight runs, 13 hits, three home runs and 18 RBI.
- Minnick held a .500 batting avg. with four runs, seven hits, three walks, two home runs and 11 RBI along with a .929 slugging percentage.
- Meeks hit .545 on the weekend with four runs, six hits, three doubles, a home run, seven RBI totaling a 1.091 slugging percentage.
THE NEXT 60 FEET
- Indiana ranks third in the conference with 37 stolen bases this season.
- The Hoosiers tallied 13 stolen bases on 16 attempts at the UNCG Invitational.
- IU's eight stolen bases against IUPUI is the most in a game from a Big Ten school this season.
TARYN IT UP
- Second baseman Taryn Kern is making plays on the field for the Hoosiers. She has started every game for the Hoosier in the infield and tallied two hits, one RBI and seven assists in her rookie debut.
- Kern holds third highest on base percentage on the team with .458.
- The San Jose, Calif., native, started in all five games for the Hoosiers at the TaxAct Clearwater Invitational facing four top-25 teams.
- Against No. 22 ranked Louisiana, Kern hit an RBI single to put the Hoosiers on the board.
- She went four for 11 with three walks on the weekend and is tied second on the team for most hits on the season with six.
COPELAND NO-HITTER
- Sophomore Brianna Copeland threw her first career no-hitter against Prairie View A&M tallying a career-high ten strikeouts, along with no hits, one run and zero walks. After opening weekend, she has an era of .60 after pitching 11.2 innings and totaling 14 strikeouts.
