Softball Extends Win Streak to 10 with Victories Over NSU, Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Indiana Softball (17-9) picked up two wins against Northwestern State (12-11), 4-2, and Memphis (4-21), 16-2, on day one of the double header at the Tiger Softball Complex as they extend their win streak to 10 on Friday.
INDIANA 4, NORTHWESTERN STATE 2
KEY MOMENTS
• Both teams were off to a slow offensive start with the defense holding strong, however, junior Brooke Benson would kick start the offense with an RBI double through the left side to give the Hoosiers the lead in the bottom of the second inning.
• Indiana would defend the lead with a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the third before heading to the plate.
• Sophomore Taylor Minnick and freshman Avery Parker had two hits but would strand to three on base in the bottom of the third.
• In the bottom of the fourth, freshman Taryn Kern hit a three RBI home run over the left field wall to take a 4-0 lead.
• Memphis tacked on their first run with an RBI single up the middle in the fifth and another with a leadoff home run in the top of the seventh.
INDIANA 16, MEMPHIS 2
KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana dominated the second game in the double header against the Memphis Tigers as they found the offensive momentum early scoring four runs on four hits for the lead.
• Kern hit an RBI standup double down the right field line in the top of the second to keep it going.
• The Hoosiers would shut down the Tiger's offense with back-to-back 1-2-3 innings through the second.
• Memphis added their first run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single up the middle to cute the Indiana lead, 4-1, but the Hoosiers would pile on six more in the top of the fourth.
• Senior Cora Bassett hit an RBI single through the left side followed by a two RBI home run from Kern over the center field wall.
• Sophomore Brianna Copeland added two more RBI on a standup double off the wall in left center before senior Abby Meeks scored the last runner on an RBI single.
• The Hoosiers sealed it in five innings after scoring five more runs on three hits to extend the lead, 16-1.

• Minnick went yard for the fourth time this season along with 22 RBI.
• Copeland advances to 8-0 inside the circle totaling four strikeouts against the Lady Demons bringing her season total to 62.
• The Hoosiers totaled five stolen bases against Memphis for a total of 60 on the season.
• Indiana's 16 runs are the second most scored this season and rank ninth for most in a single game.
• IU tallied 16 hits against the Tigers ranking the fourth highest for most hits in a single game.
