RALEIGH, N.C. - Parker Raymond broke 1:50 in the 800 meters with a season's best 1:49.45 to finish fourth on the final day of the Raleigh Relays.
He ran 1:49.98 indoors at the IU Relays in late January and has now gone under 1:49.5 for the first time since the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Keefer Soehngen (1:51.44) and Jaylen Castillo (1:51.81) joined him under 1:52 with personal bests and collegiate debuts outdoors for the Hoosiers.
IU opened the day with its men's quartet in the 4x100 relay. John Colquitt, Antonio Laidler, Trelee Banks and Christopher Grant carried the stick in 40.86 to open the season in the event. Laidler is the lone returner from the team that finished third last year at the Big Ten meet.
Shaton Vaughn ran his first 400-meter hurdle race of the year, opening up in 52.59 in the fastest heat. Colquitt, making the jump from 300-meter hurdles in high school to 400-meter hurdles at the collegiate level, clocked a 55.33.
Alyssa Robinson and Christopher Grant ran into headwinds in their sections of the 200 meters, running 24.14 and 21.82 respectively to lead the way for IU.
Next weekend will take the Hoosiers to Gainesville, Fla. for the Pepsi Florida Relays. The jumps, throws and pole vault groups will make outdoor season debuts.
