GAINESVILLE, Fla. - A big kick down the homestretch and an outstanding 55.4 split on the final lap set Camden Marshall up for a big performance to open his season in the 1500 meters.
Marshall ran an early NCAA lead of 3:39.51 in the Invite Section of the 1500 meters at the Pepsi Florida Relays, dropping his personal best by nearly three seconds.
His time moves him into No. 7 in program history, making him one of just eight athletes to run under 3:40 in the event for the Hoosiers.
He is one of just two athletes in school history (Jim Spivey and Mark Deady) with outdoor top-10 marks in both the of the middle-distance events (800 meters and 1500 meters).
On the women's side, Maddie Dalton and Jenna Barker both ran personal bests, stopping the clock in 4:18.26 and 4:20.66 respectively.
Dalton's mark moves her into a tie for seventh with Jenean Sorrells (1990) on the program's all-time top-10 list. She is one of just nine athletes to run under 4:19 across 1500 meters.
Makayla Hunter improved her rank in the school's all-time records with an impressive heave of 47.59m/156-1 to kickstart her season in the javelin.
Her mark, set on her second throw of the day, is fourth best in program history and the biggest throw in 20 years by an IU athlete.
The Hoosiers pushed both 4x400 relays and its men's 4x100 relay into the finals tomorrow at the Pepsi Florida Relays.
The quartet of John Colquitt, Antonio Laidler, Trelee Banks and Christopher Grant ran a season's best 40.74, grabbing the final spot in tomorrow's race.

The Irishman recorded three marks of 64.90m/212-11 or better on the afternoon as he prepares to face elite competition next weekend at the Triton Invitational in San Diego.
Grayson Rolen opened his high jump season outdoors with his best season opener of his college career. He cleared the bar at 2.06m/6-9 before missing on three close attempts at 2.11m/6-11.
Antonio Laidler (21.14) and Alyssa Robinson (23.93) both ran season's bests in the 200 meters with Christopher Grant (21.33) and Hope Purcell (25.72) lowering their personal bests in a hotly-contested field of sprinters.
