BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Penn State's offense jumped all over the Indiana Baseball team (18-16, 3-4 B1G) on Friday night in Bloomington, mashing seven home runs enroute to a dominant 15-4 victory at Bart Kaufman Field. The top six hitters in the Nittany Lion order all went yard as the visitors won a fifth-consecutive contest.
Penn State grabbed three runs in the first inning and never relinquished the lead. IU had two runners on in the second and third innings but mustered just two runs, failing to capitalize on multiple early opportunities. The Nittany Lions, and their juggernaut offense, blew the game open with eight combined runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
The Hoosiers had a chance to make it close in the seventh. Freshman second baseman Jasen Oliver had an RBI-single before sophomore outfielder Devin Taylor laced a ball, hit 109 mph off the bat, at the second baseman Kyle Hannon for an out. Sophomore shortstop Tyler Cerny hit a ball right to the warning track to end the threat in the next at-bat.
IU will turn the ball over to ace and sophomore right-hander Connor Foley on Saturday afternoon (2:00 PM) with hopes of forcing a rubber match on Sunday. Foley, and his spotless 0.00 earned run average in Big Ten play, will face a tough challenge against the relentless Penn State offense.
