2/20/2025 3:39:00 PM | Women's Swimming and Diving
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Bloomington native and Indiana swimming and diving junior Kristina Paegle reset the school record in the 50-yard freestyle during Thursday (Feb. 20) morning's preliminary session at the 2025 Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships inside the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on the campus of the Ohio State University.
Paegle previously broke the school standard with a midseason 21.76 in 2023 but was overtaken by fifth-year senior Ashley Turak's 21.73 at the 2024 NCAA Championships. The junior's 21.63 reset the record by a tenth of a second and made Paegle the top qualifier going into Thursday night's championship final.
Off her Big Ten-record breaking performance Wednesday night, Anna Peplowski also earned top qualifier status Thursday morning. The senior cruised to a top time of 4:37.24, which matches the time that won the Big Ten title a year ago. Peplowski owns the Big Ten record – 4:34.06 – which she set during a bronze medal finish at the 2024 NCAA Championships.
The Hoosiers will look to trim into Michigan's lead with 13 finalists, combining swimming, diving and the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Sophomore Ella Roselli will return to the 1-meter springboard championship final after winning silver in the event last season. Three more divers made the consolation cut – freshman MK Cavanaugh, senior Skyler Liu and sophomore Lily Witte. IU is the only program with four finalists between the top-two finals.
Senior Ching Hwee Gan will join Peplowski in the 500 free A final after dropping a personal best 4:38.58 Thursday morning. IU has four A finalists, six B finalists, two C finalists and the No. 3-seeded relay.
