COLUMBUS, Ohio – Indiana has given itself a chance.
The deficit going into the final night of the 2025 Big Ten Women's Swimming and Diving Champion – 127 points – is hard to make up, but the Hoosiers are doing what they can to make it close.
Indiana swimming and diving will send 17 finalists, 10 championship finalists and three top qualifiers to Saturday's evening session, the decisive night of the team competition inside the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on the campus of the Ohio State University. On top of the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly and platform diving, IU will hope to make up points in the 1,650-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relay.
Sophomore Miranda Grana led the way in the 200-yard backstroke prelim, finishing as the top seed for the third time this week. Grana finished first in 100 fly and second in the 100 back Friday night and has been a welcome addition to IU's relays. Senior Kacey McKenna and junior Mya DeWitt will join Grana in the A final, and senior Anna Freed will race the consolation heat after tying with DeWitt for eighth in the morning.
Senior Anna Peplowski and Kristina Paegle can give IU a boost if they can both medal in the 100-yard freestyle for the second year straight. Peplowski earned the top seed, and Paegle was fourth in the morning.
Two-time 200-yard breaststroke champion Brearna Crawford made herself the favorite in the event again, earning IU's third top seed of the day. Freshman Mary Cespedes dropped 2.34 seconds from her personal best to reach the championship final in 2:09.23. Sophomore Reese Tiltmann snuck into the B final with a personal best of her own in 2:12.36.
Indiana fought for spots in the 200-yard butterfly. Sophomore Ava Whitaker finished third in the morning in 1:56.20, though swimming closer to her personal best 1:55.26 could help her move up the standings. Junior Katie Forrester (1:57.60), sophomore Avery Spade (1:57.75) and Freed (1:58.31) – doing a 200 back, 200 fly double – was 14th as the trio filled up the B final.
For the third time in three days, all four divers will score. Having already medaled this week, senior Skyler Liu (314.00) and Ella Roselli (289.45) reached the championship. Freshman Mary Kate Cavanaugh (223.25) placed 12th in the prelim to make the consolation final, and sophomore Lily Witte will score six points as the 19th-place finisher.
