Buhr, Offense Dictate Sunday Story
3/2/2025 4:00:00 PM | Baseball
The Hoosiers picked up six extra-base hits in the victory, capped off by a mammoth three-run home run from redshirt sophomore Korbyn Dickerson. He finished the day with three hits and six RBIs. IU walked 11 times and got hit by five pitches.
Sophomore catcher T.J. Schuyler was tasked with replacing redshirt senior Jake Stadler in the second inning. Stadler returned to the lineup after missing four games through illness. But he was forced to leave the contest after he took a pitch to the eye that deflected off his helmet.
Schuyler made his impact known in his fourth game of the weekend. He smacked a two-run double in the third inning and finished with four runs scored on the afternoon. He finished with five hits in four games in Florida while catching 29 of the 31 possible innings.
Six different players in IU's order had multi-hit efforts. The top four hitters in IU's lineup combined for 11 hits, seven runs, 11 RBIs and six walks. Dickerson, junior outfielder Devin Taylor and freshman first baseman Jake Hanley all had three-hit contests.
IU's pitching struggled through the first four innings but veteran reliever Drew Buhr (Save, 2) came on to settle the score. He threw the final three innings – all scoreless – while striking out four. He lowered his season earned run average to 1.29 across five outings and 14 innings pitched this year.
The Hoosiers closed the weekend with a 3-1 record, picking up a pair of wins over Mount St. Mary's and one against Stetson. IU scored 50 runs in four games while combining for 54 base hits. Despite some inconsistency, the IU pitching staff gave up just 20 earned runs on the weekend.

Notes to Know
• IU scored 20 runs in Sunday's contest, the most runs in a single game since March 30, 2024 (22 – vs. Butler). It's the eighth time under head coach Jeff Mercer (since 2019) that IU has racked up at least 20 runs in a single game. This output was the earliest in a season that IU has scored 20 runs since putting up 26 against Indiana Wesleyan (Feb. 15, 1999).
• Graduate student right-handed pitcher Drew Buhr pitched three scoreless innings to earn his second save of the weekend. Since allowing two runs in an inning against UNLV (Feb. 17), the veteran reliver has rattled off nine-consecutive scoreless frames.
• Redshirt sophomore center fielder Korbyn Dickerson has eight multi-hit days in his last 10 games. Over that 10-game stretch, he has 20 hits, 22 RBIs, 20 runs scored and seven home runs. He is riding a nine-game hitting streak, the longest active streak on the team.
• The Hoosiers were the recipients of 16 free passes from walks and hit-by-pitches. It's the second time this year (Fordham) that IU has had at least 10 walks and five hit-by-pitches in a single game. IU has double-digit walks in five of 12 games this season.
• Junior shortstop Tyler Cerny was hit by two pitches on Sunday, taking his season tally to eight. For his career, he's been hit by 33 pitches. Since 2001, only Chris Hervey (38 – 2006-09) was hit by more pitches in an IU uniform.
