Four Hoosier Crews Make Big Ten Grand Finals
5/17/2025 2:30:00 PM | Women's Rowing
INDIANAPOLIS – No. 16-ranked Indiana rowing kicked off its weekend at the 2025 Big Ten Rowing Championships advancing four of its crews to grand finals during Saturday (May 17) morning's opening session at the Indianapolis Rowing Center on the Eagle Creek Reservoir.
IU's Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and Third Varsity Four crews finished top three in its heats to qualify for Sunday's top six racing. The Second Varsity Four, Novice Eight and Second Novice Eight will hope to maximize scoring out of the petite finals.
Sunday's racing is slated to start a 9 a.m. ET. Fans can watch the action on the B1G+ digital platform or follow along with live results at HereNow.com.
Indiana only trailed No. 2-ranked Washington in its Varsity Eight heat, defeating Ohio State and three more crews soundly to place second in Saturday's race. The Buckeyes looked to be making a move at the 500-meter mark within two seconds of IU, but the Hoosiers found their rhythm and extend their lead to 5.5 seconds when they reached the finish line.
IU's 2V8 heat provided perhaps the greatest intrigue Saturday, producing an exciting race for the second and third place positions. It was Minnesota that came in second in 6:48.071 with Indiana and Michigan State chasing. In a photo finish, the Hoosiers held off MSU by two tenths of a second with a time of 6:49.785, just good enough to grab the last grand final spot.
IU's V4 earned a third place finish, 4.3 seconds ahead of UCLA and 9.6 seconds ahead of Iowa, only trailing No. 7 Rutgers and No. 10 Michigan. It was a similar story for the 3V4, though it built a 15-second margin over UCLA and a 20-second ahead of Iowa.
