
Indiana Cruises Past MSVU in Season Opener

?BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana basketball team officially opened the 2014-15 season with a 116-65 victory against Mississippi Valley State on Friday. The mark of 116 points is the most points for the Hoosiers since a 1994 victory against Tennessee Tech (117 points). Freshman James Blackmon, Jr. scored a game-high 25 points in his first career game at Indiana.
Blackmon, who shot 75 percent from the three-point line, opened the game by nailing his first of three three-pointers of the game. As a team, the Hoosiers shot 11-for-23 (47.8 percent) from the three-point line. The 11 three-pointers made exceeds last year's game-high of 10 against Illinois on Dec. 31, 2013.
After the Delta Devils took an early 4-3 lead, the Hoosiers answered with a 9-0 run, led by four points from Hanner Mosquera-Perea. Mosquera-Perea finished the game with a career-high in points (9), rebounds (12) and minutes (21).
With 3:37 to play in the opening period, Indiana went on a 12-0 run to take a commanding 52-27 lead. Blackmon knocked in five points during that stretch.
The Hoosiers began where they left off to open the second half, going on a 12-2 run and sinking three straight three-pointers to push their lead to 66-33 with 17:11 remaining.
Indiana outscored the Delta Devils 62-34 in the final period, led by freshman Max Hoetzel who recorded 12 of his 16 points in the second half.
Five Hoosiers finished in double-digits, including Blackmon, Hoetzel, Nick Zeisloft (16), Robert Johnson (15) and Kevin Yogi Ferrell (15).
Indiana returns home on Monday as they play host to Texas Southern at 6 p.m.
