MATCHING UP WITH MARYLAND
The Terrapins are sitting at a 5-9-0 overall record and an 0-6-0 Big Ten mark. Early season wins for Maryland included Kent State, Navy, La Salle, SMU and Yale. Although winless in the conference, five of Maryland's Big Ten losses were by just one goal. Most recently, the Terps lost a 2-1 overtime battle to Ohio State. Sophomore Alex Anthony has led the offensive attack this season, netting eight goals and an assist. Six other Terps have scored at least one goal. Senior Rachelle Beanlands has been Maryland's primary goalkeeper, starting 13 games and registering a 1.01 save percentage with 50 saves and 13 goals against.
IU and Maryland have played just twice in program history - a 2-0 Terps win in 1994 and a scoreless draw in last year's inaugural Big Ten matchup.
BATTLING THE BUCKEYES
Ohio State is currently 8-3-3 with a 3-2-2 conference record. Big Ten wins for the Buckeyes include Iowa, Purdue and most recently Maryland. Ohio State's most notable non-conference victory came in a 1-0 overtime victory against No. 8 Florida on Aug. 23. Junior Nichelle Prince has scored a team-leading six goals this season, in addition to recording five assists. Sophomore Nikki Walts is second in scoring with five goals. In total, 10 different Buckeyes have registered at least one goal on the year. Ohio State has seen three different Buckeyes in goal, with Jillian McVicker logging the most minutes. The redshirt junior has played 12 games, recording a 1.13 goals against average with 25 saves and 10 goals against. Freshman Devon Kerr has also played significant minutes, with a 0.73 goals against average and 26 saves in eight games.
OSU holds a slight edge in the head-to-head series at, 12-11-2. The Buckeyes have won the last four meetings with the most recent Hoosier win coming in a 2010 battle in Bloomington.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hoosiers hit the road last weekend and headed east to face No. 23 Rutgers and No. 11 Penn State. The Hoosiers dropped both contests but saw more impressive outings from redshirt senior goalkeeper Sarah Stone. After tying her season high with seven saves against Rutgers, Stone tied her career-high of 12 saves against Penn State on Sunday.
THIS WEEK'S PROMOS
Thursday's game against Maryland will feature a scarf giveaway for the first 150 fans at Armstrong Stadium. In addition, the redshirt senior has recorded 183 career saves, which ranks fifth in IU program history. Stone is currently second in the conference with 75 saves on the year.
PUTTING IN OVERTIME
To this point, Indiana has played in six overtime contests this season, which is the most since the 2007 team played in eight. Five of Indiana's OT games have resulted in ties, while a sixth resulted in a 1-0 victory against Baylor in the first OT period on Aug. 30. Indiana's five ties this season are the most since the 1999 team registered six. The Hoosiers have had five of six home games result in double overtime ties.
