BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -Indiana had their best showing of the Big Ten season thus far. After falling behind 17-0, Indiana won four straight to come within one point, 17-16. The Hoosiers fell to Michigan State, 26-16 following three wins to end the match by the Spartans.
Redshirt sophomore Trevor Moody earned his second Big Ten victory of the season with a decision over Trimble. After no score in the first period, Moody rides out the entire second period to earn 2:00 minutes of riding time. In the third the 149-pound Hoosier got a takedown to take a 3-0 lead. With under a minute left Trimble reversed and moved within one point, 3-2. Moody quickly escaped and earned a bonus point for riding time, taking the match 5-2.
Luke Blanton brought his Big Ten record to .500 (3-3) with a major decision against Curely. Blanton's Spartan opponent jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after getting a takedown soon after the starting whistle. Just before the period ended Blanton got and escape and a takedown to take a 3-2 lead into the second period. The redshirt freshman would not look back from there, earning an escape, a takedown and three-point nearfall before it was all said and done. With the bonus point for 2:02 in riding time, he won 10-2.
Winning his third straight match of the year and bringing his season record to 27-4, Taylor Walsh kept the Hoosiers rolling. He defeated Wildmo in a shutout major decision. Walsh domintaed from the get-go, taking down Wildmo and nearlt pinning him to get a three-point nearfall (5-0). Walsh would start the second period down and escape within a few seconds. He finished the bout with a takedown in the second, an escape in the third and a bonus point for riding time. The redshirt senior won 10-0.
The fourth and final Hoosier victory belonged to Nate Jackson at 174 pounds, who continued his recent success with his fifth consecutive win. Just like Walsh, Jackson got out to a quick start picking up a takedown and a nearfall. Jackson dominated the second, 8-1, to take a 12-1 lead into the final period. The 174-pounder would take down Proctor twice and let him up before ending the match by technical fall. The first technical fall of Jackson's career ends 18-3. The redshirt sophomore is now 22-8 on the year.
The Hoosiers will wrestle Gardner-Webb (1:30 pm ET) and SIU-Edwardsville (3 pm ET) this Sunday, February 13 at the Sam. M. Vadalabene Center in Edwardsville, Ill.
