MADISON, WISC. – The Indiana Women's Soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Wisconsin on Friday night in Madison.
After a pair of early shots by Wisconsin's Kinley McNicoll went wide, she put the Badgers on the board with a goal towards the high-center portion of the net in the 16th minute.
Four minutes later, a header by McKenna Meuer pushed the Badger lead to 2-0 as she picked up a ball from Kylie Schwarz six yards out off a free kick.
Indiana freshman Justine Lynn, who had been sidelined with an injury this season, checked into her first career game in the 31st minute. Ten minutes later, she put up her first career shot and Indiana's first shot on goal, but it was saved by Wisconsin's Caitlyn Clem.
Wisconsin added a third goal right before the half off the foot of Steph Fabry as she beat Indiana goalkeeper Sarah Stone to the far post.
"Soccer is a 90-minute game and unfortunately for us I thought we put in a good 60 minutes today," said Indiana head coach Amy Berbary. "We let a 10-minute span get away from us and we got punished for it then we were chasing the game.
The Hoosier defense settled in to keep the Badgers scoreless in the second half as Wisconsin fired off eight shots in the final half, compared to 13 first-half attempts. Stone made a trio of saves in the second half and ended the game with four total.
"At halftime we just talked about the effort it was going to take out of not one or two players, but everybody," said Berbary. "I thought we put together a pretty good 45 minutes in the second half."
Seven different Hoosiers put up a shot in the game, including Maya Piper, Cassidy Blacha and Lauren Joray's second half attempts, but Lynn's was the only one that was on target for Indiana.
"We've got to get the kids to mentally push this aside," said Berbary. "We can't complain about the problems that happened and we can't point fingers. We have to come up with solutions and that's the job of the coaching staff and the older leaders on the team. That's what good leaders do, they come up with solutions."
The Hoosiers travel to Minnesota on Sunday as they face the Golden Gophers at 2 p.m. ET. The game will be shown live on BTN Plus.
