IU Women’s Swimming & Diving Heads to NCAA Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 13-ranked Indiana University women's swimming and diving team will head south to Atlanta for the 2016 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted by Georgia Tech University.
The four-day meet gets underway on Wednesday night at the McAuley Aquatic Center with the finals of the 800 freestyle relay. The next three days will feature prelims beginning at 10 a.m. ET, with finals following at 6 p.m. ET. Diving trials and consolation finals will begin following swimming prelims Thursday through Saturday.
ESPN3.com will live stream finals sessions on Friday and Saturday. Wednesday's evening session, Thursday's sessions, along with the morning sessions on Friday and Saturday, will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
Additionally, ESPNU will air a two-hour broadcast via tape delay at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 29. Live results for the championships are available at IUHoosiers.com.
Hoosiers at the 2016 NCAA Championships
The Indiana Hoosiers will send a total of 13 swimmers and diver to Atlanta this week for the NCAA Championships. Along with the individual events listed below, the Hoosiers will also swim in the 800 freestyle relay, the 400 medley relay, the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
The Hoosiers have recorded some impressive times this season, earning eight individual top-10 seeds at this year's NCAA Championships. In total, IU's eight qualifiers was second-most in the Big Ten to Michigan's nine.
Leading the way for the Hoosiers is freshman Lilly King, who earned the No. 1 seed in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. Classmate Miranda Tucker is the No. 3 seed for the 200 breast and the No. 5 seed for the 100 breast.
Senior Haley Lips earned the No. 4 seed in the 500 freestyle, the No. 9 seed in the 200 freestyle and the No. 10 seed in the 1,650 freestyle. Gia Dalesandro will be the No. 10 seed in the 200 butterfly.

Indiana at the 2015 NCAA Championships
The Hoosiers placed 10th overall and were the top Big Ten finisher at the 2015 NCAA Championships with a total of 126 points.
Jessica Parratto became the sixth NCAA Champion in Indiana history, winning the title in the platform dive by over 30 points. Parratto did not dive for the Hoosiers this season, as she is taking her Olympic redshirt year.
Overall, four individuals (Brooklyn Snodrgrass, Jessica Parratto, Gia Dalesandro and Kennedy Goos) earned six All-American honors for IU, while the Hoosiers' 800 freestyle relay finished sixth overall to also earn All-American accolades.
IU Places Second at 2016 Big Ten Championships
The Indiana Hoosiers finished second overall at the 2016 Big Ten Championships in February, winning a total of 16 medals – six gold, six silver and four bronze. IU has placed first or second at the Big Ten Championships in each of the last eight years, winning the title three-straight times from 2009 to 2011. The Hoosiers have finished second the last five seasons.
Lilly King was name Big Ten Freshman of the Year and First-Team All-Big Ten after winning four gold and one bronze medals in her first Big Ten Championships. Joining King on the All-Big Ten First Team were Marie Chamberlain, Gia Dalesandro, Kennedy Goss, Haley Lips and Grace Vertigans. Delaney Barnard and Miranda Tucker were named Second-Team All-Big Ten.
Over the course of the Big Ten Championships, the Hoosiers posted some impressive accolades. Overall the team totaled seven school record swims, two Big Ten records, four Big Ten meet records, five Canham Natatorium records, six NCAA A cuts, 59 NCAA B cuts and 37 personal best marks.
Weekly Big Ten Honors
Indiana's Lilly King was honored four times this season by the Big Ten, earning Swimmer of the Week honors twice and Freshman of the Week honors twice as well. Gia Dalesandro was named Swimmer of the Week once, Lacey Houser was named Diver of the Week once, and Miranda Tucker was named Freshman of the Week twice.
