Top Crews In the Country Converge for Clemson Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana – The 13th ranked Indiana rowing team will travel to Lake Hartwell in Clemson, South Carolina, for the Clemson Invitational this weekend. The Hoosiers will be one of 20 teams competing at one of the largest collegiate regattas in the country with some of the top teams in the country in attendance.
The racing will get underway at 8:30 a.m. ET on Saturday morning and will be followed by a second session of racing at 5:00 p.m. Saturday evening. The regatta concludes on Sunday with the final session starting at 8:30 a.m.

LANE ASSIGNMENTS
In the Saturday morning session, Indiana will be racing against UCF, Clemson, #14 Washington State, #3 Virginia, Cornell and Penn in most of the races.
The Saturday afternoon session has IU pitted against #19 Syracuse, Penn, #20 Louisville, #17 Radcliffe, UCLA and Clemson.
And then on Sunday, the Hoosiers are scheduled to race against Oregon State, Columbia, Michigan State, #8 Texas, Clemson and Tennessee.

VARSITY 8 BOATS OFF TO GOOD START
On April 2, Indiana played host to Iowa and Louisville at Lake Lemon to start the competitive spring season. In the 1V8 race, it was the Hoosiers that came out on top with a time of 6:42.6 while Iowa was three seconds behind and Louisville was nine seconds behind the Hoosiers.
In the 2V8 race, IU once again crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 6:56.2 while Iowa was second, just two seconds back, and Louisville was three seconds back.
IN THE POLLS THIS WEEK
In the CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll that was published on April 13, the Indiana Hoosiers are ranked No. 13.
Overall, there are five Big Ten teams in the Top 20, with Ohio State (4), Michigan (10), Wisconsin (12), Indiana (13) and Iowa (16).
NEW FACES IN NEW PLACES
Following the strong run the last two years, graduation took its toll on the Hoosiers Varsity crews heading into 2015-16.
In the 1V8 boat against Iowa and Louisville, there were just three returning members – Alice Wright, Emily Barber and Rebecca Brougher.
UNPRECEDENTED SUCCESS FOR THE HOOSIERS
The Indiana Rowing program is in the midst of unprecedented success for the program, as they have made back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Championship in 2014 and 2015. Those two appearances marked the first two appearances in the NCAA Championship in program history.
In 2014, the Hoosiers finished 11th as a team and were led by the ninth place finish of the 1V4 while the 1V8 finished 10th and the 2V8 came in 14th.
In 2015, Indiana once against finished 11th as a team with the 1V8 leading the way with another 10th place finish while the 2V8 checked in with a 11th place finish and the 1V4 registered a 13th place finish.
