Varsity 8 Crews Finish Just Behind No. 8 Texas at Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 13 Indiana rowing team kicked off the final day of the Clemson Invitational early this morning at Lake Hartwell. This morning's regatta saw Indiana up against No. 8 Texas, Clemson, Columbia, Michigan State, Oregon State and Tennessee for the majority of their races.

The First Varsity 8 for Indiana battled it out with Texas in their heat this morning, but fell behind late and claimed second place. Texas won the race by a 3.1-second margin with a time of 6:42.4, while Indiana notched a time of 6:45.5.

The Hoosiers' Second Varsity 8 boat also saw a neck-and-neck battle against the Texas crew. The Texas boat crossed the finish line a few strokes ahead of the Hoosiers who were just 3.1 seconds behind Texas. Texas finished with a time of 6:48.8, and Indiana crossed the line at 6:51.9. Clemson followed in third place, about 9 seconds behind the Hoosiers.

Indiana's First Varsity 4 crew came out strong early, only a few seat-lengths behind Texas, but they were passed up by Clemson and Tennessee in the last half of the race. Then, they were barely edged out by Oregon State at the finish line. Indiana finished with a time of 7:51.6.

Indiana's Second Varsity 4 crew saw a competitive race between Clemson to claim the second place spot, behind Texas who finished in first at 7:29.3. The Hoosiers took second place with a time of 7:37.3, 1.9 seconds ahead of Clemson.

The Hoosiers' Novice 8 boat finished out the day with a sixth place finish and a time of 7:06.6.

Indiana will host Duke, Notre Dame and Navy next weekend for the Dale England Cup at Lake Lemon.
