COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Indiana Hoosiers (17-14, 7-11 Big Ten) closed the regular season with a 96-92 win at Ohio State on Saturday afternoon. Robert Johnson paced five Hoosiers in double figures with 26 points – one shy of his career high – while Thomas Bryant added 22 points in the winning effort.
The last time IU had five players reach double figures in scoring in the same game was the first Big Ten game of the year this season against Nebraska on Dec. 28, 2016.
Indiana was 34-of-58 from the floor for 58.6 percent, highlighted by a stellar 22-of-34 shooting effort in the first half. The Hoosiers also connected on 12 3-point field goals in the game and was 16-of-22 at the free throw line.
The 96 points scored by the Hoosiers are the most that Ohio State has ever allowed at Value City Arena, topping the previous high of 84, which happened on three previous occasions.
The game started with Indiana scoring the first 11 points before Ohio State (17-14, 7-11 Big Ten) found the scoreboard. The lead would extend all the way out to 18 points after a Johnson fastbreak layup put IU ahead, 30-12 with just under 13 minutes left in the first half.
Ohio State was able to cut the lead down to single digits, 39-30, but the Hoosiers went on another run to push it back to a 17-point lead and took a 14-point edge into the locker room at halftime.
At the start of the second half, the IU offense was not able to maintain the blistering pace set in the first half and Ohio State started to chip away at the lead, and even took a 62-61 lead with 11:37 left in the game.
But that was the perfect time for another Indiana scoring run, outscoring the Buckeyes by a 13-2 margin to re-take a 10-point lead at 74-64. From there, the offense kept Ohio State at bay and thanks to Blackmon Jr.'s 4-of-4 effort at the free throw line in the final 37 seconds, left Value City Arena with a win.
The Buckeyes took their only lead of the game at the 11:12 mark in the second half, but the Hoosiers responded and regained a 12-point lead just five minutes later and came away with the win.
Indiana will now await the results of Sunday's Nebraska game against Michigan to determine its seed for the Big Ten Tournament. A Nebraska win against Michigan will give the Hoosiers the No. 10 seed and they would play in the No. 7 vs. No. 10 seed game on Thursday.
A win by Nebraska would mean the Hoosiers would play on Wednesday at the Big Ten Tournament, which is being held at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.
