WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – After opening the 2017 NCAA Rowing Championship on Mercer Lake with solid performances across the board in the morning, all three crews returned to the lake for their repechage heats in the afternoon.
Just as they did in the morning, the 1V8 led the way with a second place finish in their heat, using a time of 6:17.857 to finish just over two seconds behind Wisconsin. Indiana trailed by over three seconds midway through the race and then closed strong to push the Badgers to the end. The second place finish earns the Hoosiers a spot in the A/B semifinals on Saturday.
For the 2V8 crew, their repechage heat came down to the final portion of the race with IU and Princeton battling for second place and a spot in the A/B semifinals. It was Princeton that opened with the lead after the first 500 meters and then extended it to a three second lead before IU accelerated down the stretch but came up short by one second to take third place with a time of 6:25.015 and move on to the C/D semifinals.
And the 1V4 rounded out the repechage heats with a fourth place finish to move on to the C/D semifinals on Saturday.
The schedule for Saturday will put the 1V8 in the second A/B semifinal heat at 8:48 a.m. followed by the 2V8 in the first heat of the C/D semifinals at 9:00 a.m. Then at 10:00 a.m. the 1V4 will take to the course in the C/D semifinals.
