Hoosiers Open Season at Virginia, Hokie Open

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana wrestling team opens the season with a dual at Virginia on Nov. 3 and the next day at the Hokie Open.
Under first head coach and Indiana alum Angel Escobedo the team has been working hard and are excited to get the season underway.
The Indiana roster features six seniors and three that qualified for the NCAA Championships a season ago in Cole Weaver, Elijah Oliver and Bryce Martin.

In the 2017-18 season the Cavaliers posted a record of 4-10 and went 0-5 in ACC competition. At 125 No. 8 ranked Louie Hayes could be a national champion contender this year. Hayes lost in the All-American round at the 2018 NCAA Championships. At 141 the Cavaliers have two-time NCAA Qualifier Sam Krivus and at 184 NCAA Qualifier Will Schany.

The Hoosiers open the season with three ranked competitors. Cole Weaver is ranked #12 at 141 by FloWrestling. Elijah Oliver is ranked #19 and Bryce Martin is ranked #19 also on FloWrestling.
The All-Time Series vs. UVA
This will be just the fourth meeting between Indiana and Virginia, with the Hoosiers winning all three of the previous duals. The last time these school squared off was Jan. 30, 2005 when Indiana won by a score of 28-10.
