ATHENS, Ga. – Indiana Women's Soccer jumped ahead twice, but ultimately drew with Georgia on Friday night at the Turner Soccer Complex, 2-2. Senior Abby Allen again led the Indiana offense as she scored and added an assist. Senior Maya Piper also found the back of the net while redshirt senior Annelie Leitner collected a pair of assists.
KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana went ahead in the ninth minute on Maya Piper's first goal of the season. The opportunity started as Leitner sent the ball down the left side into the box, Allen chased it to the endline and tapped it to Piper, who was waiting at the top of the six-yard box. Piper buried it as the ball stayed just under the crossbar.
• Both Bulldog goals came from freshman Abby Boyan, who first scored in the 35th minute on a bouncing header to the near post.
• Allen put the Hoosiers back on top late as she found the back of the net in the 80th minute. Leitner found a charging Allen as she was making her way up the left flank. Allen collected the ball at the top of the 18-yard box, continued driving and slid it past diving Georgia goalkeeper Emory Wegener.
• The Indiana lead would not last long as Boyan found the equalizer just three minutes later.
NOTABLES
• The Hoosiers move to 1-0-1 on the season, while Georgia is now 1-1-1.
• Indiana sophomore goalkeeper Bethany Kopel collected four saves.
• Freshman goalkeeper Caitlin Arbuckle made her IU debut late in the first half after Kopel was treated for an injury. Arbuckle played 11 minutes, collecting a pair of saves, before Kopel re-entered the game to start the second half.
• Georgia outshot Indiana, 24-12, however the Bulldogs held just an 8-7 advantage on shots on goal.
• Allen (6) and Piper (4) combined for 10 of Indiana's 12 shots.
• With six points already on the year, Allen has set a new career high, doubling her previous mark from a season ago.
• The teams played in front of a crowd of 1,742 in what was Georgia's home opener.
HEAD COACH AMY BERBARY
"Disappointed in not getting a win but this is one of those games that could have gone either way," said head coach Amy Berbary. "I am really proud of the effort and the fight. It was a really intense environment tonight and it's a tough place to play. I thought we handled it fairly well, but we did have our moments in the game and Georgia did a good job of punishing us in those couple moments that we lost our composure."
