CLEMSON, S.C. – Indiana Women's Soccer saw senior Abby Allen continue her hot start to the season as she netted a pair of goals, but the Hoosiers ultimately fell to Clemson on the road Sunday afternoon, 4-2.
Key Moments
• Clemson jumped to a 21st minute lead on the first of two goals from Mariana Speckmaier, who dribbled around a Hoosier defender and sent in from long range to the far post.
• Allen found the equalizer just eight minutes later as redshirt senior Mykayla Brown sent in a cross from just a few feet in from the corner flag. The ball bounced into the hands of waiting Clemson goalkeeper Maddie Weber, however she couldn't contain it and Allen got to the ball and lofted it with her left foot.
• The Tigers regained the lead for good in the 32nd minute as they drew a penalty kick. Speckmaier sent it in past IU goalkeeper Bethany Kopel for her second score of the game.
• Out of the halftime break, Clemson further extended their advantage on a pair of goals from Miranda Westlake to take a 4-1 lead in the 59th minute.
• Allen found the back of the net again late as she picked up a ball headed on by senior Maya Piper and brought it up the left flank to score in the 84th minute.
Notables
• Indiana is now 1-1-1 on the year, while Clemson improves to 2-2-0.
• Allen has scored in every game this season, bringing her total to four goals. She has also added a pair of assists to earn 10 points on the year. Her previous career high for a single-season point total was three.
• Clemson outshot Indiana, 21-17, with a 12-8 advantage on shots on goal.
• The Hoosiers did earn a 4-3 advantage on corner kicks.
• Kopel collected seven saves against the Tigers, a season high.
Indiana Head Coach Amy Berbary
"Defensively today as a group, we needed to be better. I thought we gave them a few too many chances where we could have minimized opportunities. A team as good as Clemson will take advantage of that. We need to be sharper and together as both a unit and in our individual battles."
"Abby is reaping the benefits of her hard work and is seeing that on the scoresheet. But, we need others to step up and bury their chances when they get them. We had a lot of good looks today, but we need to execute to get to where we want to be as a team."
Up Next
Indiana continues its current four-game road swing next weekend with a trip west. The Hoosiers will play Pepperdine on Friday before visiting Loyola Marymount Sunday afternoon.
