LINCOLN, Neb. – Indiana Women's Soccer saw its six-game unbeaten streak snapped on Thursday as the Hoosiers fell to Nebraska in overtime, 4-3.
KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute on senior Abby Allen's seventh goal of the season. The play started as senior Justine Lynn took on an attacking Cornhusker by the corner flag and took the ball away. Junior Chandra Davidson then sent the ball up the flank, finding the feet of Nebraska goalkeeper Aubrei Corder. The keeper looked to send the ball back down the field, but Piper was there for the block. The rebound went all the way into the box and Allen charged up the middle to tap it in from two yards out.
• Nebraska tied the game at 1-1 in the 53rd minute as Meg Brandt found the top left corner on a shot from the top of the 18-yard box.
• IU regained the lead in the 65th minute thanks to a header from redshirt senior Mykayla Brown. Davidson sparked the opportunity as she found Allen on the right, who took on a defender to get loose and served the ball in to the far post. Brown headed it inside the left post for her second goal of the season.
• Sophomore Melanie Forbes extended the IU lead in the 75th minute to 3-1 on her third goal of the year. After Allen sent a great ball in to a charging Davidson, Davidson found Forbes on her left. Forbes took just one touch to finish it with her left foot.
• Nebraska's Faith Carter responded by scoring back-to-back goals to tie the game at 3-3. Her first came just 25 seconds after IU scored before finding the equalizer in the 83rd minute.
• Carter sealed the win for Nebraska just 58 seconds in to overtime as she completed her hat-trick with the game-winner.
NOTABLES
• Due to lightning in the Lincoln area, the game was delayed two hours and 37 minutes.
• Indiana moves to 6-2-2 (2-1-0 Big Ten), while Nebraska improves to 6-3-2 (2-0-1 Big Ten).
• The game marked the ninth time this season IU has scored two or more goals and the fifth time with three goals.
• On the season, IU now has 25 goals – surpassing last year's total (23).
QUOTABLE
"We talked at halftime that the game was far from over. I thought we put together a pretty good game plan that put us up two goals. But, we let it get away from us a bit with our individual defending, some miscues in the back and we let their best player take over the game.
We can learn from this. Our team knows that we let this get away. We have to continue to grow and this certainly does not define who we are and what this season is about. It's a good point for us to take a step back, fix some things and move forward. I'm confident that this group will do just that."
