WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Indiana Women's Soccer fell to Purdue on Saturday night in the Golden Boot game in double overtime, 1-0. The game-winner for the Boilermakers came on a penalty kick in the 105th minute.
KEY MOMENTS
• One of IU's best offensive chances came as time was winding down in the first half. After redshirt senior Mykayla Brown drew a foul just outside the box, junior Meghan Scott had a fantastic look in on the service. It was saved as Purdue goalkeeper Katie Luce tipped it out of bounds.
• Sophomore goalkeeper Bethany Kopel's biggest save of the night came in the 88th minute as Ally Mussallem brought the ball down on a breakaway. She looked to take Kopel on 1v1 but the goalkeeper was there for the stop. The rebound fell to Hannah Mussallem, but Kopel once again made the save.
• After Purdue brought the ball wide to the left of the goal in the 105th minute, a service in hit the hand of a Hoosier as the handball was called inside the box. The resulting penalty kick was converted by Purdue's Sarah Clark to win the game for the Boilermakers.
NOTABLES
• Indiana falls to 6-4-2 on the season with a 2-3-0 Big Ten mark. Purdue improves to 6-3-3, with a 1-2-2 conference record.
• Kopel ended the night with seven saves.
• Brown and Scott both had a pair of shots – with both being on-goal - to pace the Indiana offense.
• Indiana earned all five of its corner kicks in the second half of action.
• Junior Julia Gilliam made her first career start for the Hoosiers.
QUOTABLE
"The game tonight was an absolute overall battle and we knew that coming in. I felt really good about this group and that they were prepared for it. I thought coming out of the locker room in the second half we were ready to fight and we knew it wasn't going to be easy. We talked about how we were going to have to come take this. Nothing was going to be given to us. Unfortunately, we weren't able to capitalize on our very best looks and it bit us in the end.
We win together, we lose together. This is a special group, but we have six games guaranteed and we've talked about all year where we want to end up. We're just going to have to re-focus and continue to improve individually and as a team, back to front."
