BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 10 Indiana men's soccer team (10-2-3, 5-1-0 Big Ten) surged ahead with three second-half goals to down the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (7-5-3, 1-5-1 Big Ten) at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium on Friday night.
KEY MOMENTS
• The Indiana defense was up to the task in the opening half of play as the unit did not yield a shot for the first 45 minutes of play. The Scarlet Knights tallied seven shots in the second half, but only one was on frame.
• Freshman Aidan Morris served in a perfect ball off a free kick from just inside the midfield stripe in 53rd minute. The long entry pass found the head of senior Joris Ahlinvi 12 yards away from goal. Ahlinvi redirected the service into the bottom left corner of goal for his second tally of the season.
• Redshirt sophomore Joe Schmidt secured Indiana's second goal of the evening in the 71st minute. He received a long through ball from Morris, took a handful of short touches and rifled a shot from 20 yards out. The right-footed strike barely missed traffic inside the box and found the back of the net as it beat the keeper to the right corner.
• Morris finished off the game with a goal of his own, his second of the season, in the 78th minute. Morris started the run with a bass to redshirt junior Spencer Glass. Glass curled in a beautiful cross to junior Thomas Warr. Warr attempted a redirect from the six-yard box that was saved by Rutgers. The rebound fell to the left foot of Morris. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native fired in a shot from 10 yards out that snuck by the goalkeeper.
NOTABLES
• With the victory, Indiana increases its win total to 10 this season. The Hoosiers have registered double-figure wins in 45-of-47 seasons in program history and each of the last six seasons dating back to the 2013 campaign.
• The 71st-minute tally from Schmidt was his first of his career at Indiana.
• The Hoosiers are undefeated in the team's last 35 matches at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium, posting a mark of 31-0-4. The last Indiana loss at home came to No. 20 Virginia Tech, 2-1 in overtime, on Nov. 27, 2016 in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
