Bloomington, Ind. – The Indiana men's tennis team (4-3) lost for the first time at home in 2019 when it was defeated by the UCF Knights (1-4), 4-3, inside the IU Tennis Center on Friday night.
The Hoosiers wins came at the No. 2, 4, and 5 singles spots.
Doubles play didn't go the Hoosiers way as they dropped the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. The lone doubles win for IU came at the No. 2 spot with Bennett Crane and Zac Brodney taking it, 6-1.
Brodney got things going in singles when he posted IU's first win with a 6-4, 6-1 mark at No. 4. Two courts over at the No. 6 spot, UCF pulled ahead 2-1 with a 6-2, 6-3 win.
The Hoosiers battled back again into a 2-2 tie when Andrew Redding pulled out a 7-5, 6-2 win on court No. 5. With the victory, the sophomore improved to 4-0 in dual play this season.
After finding themselves in a 3-2 hole due to a Knights win on No. 1, Indiana kept clawing.
Facing a match point on No. 3, Carson Haskins won the point to win the game and tie up the set. As this was going on, Bennett Crane forced a third set on No. 2 with a 6-4 second set win.
UCF would finish off its win when it closed out the second set and match on No. 3. On the only remaining court, Crane won his match, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1, for the Hoosiers third point.
Indiana returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 2 PM with a match against the Arizona State Sun Devils inside the IU Tennis Center.
