Bloomington, Ind. – The Indiana men's tennis team (9-7, 3-1 B1G) swept the Michigan State Spartans (6-13, 0-4 B1G), 7-0, on Saturday afternoon inside the IU Tennis Center, where the Hoosiers are 8-2. This marks the fourth match this season the Hoosiers shutout their opponent.
Doubles was strong throughout as Payam Ahmadi was inputted at the No. 1 doubles spot along with Brandon Lam. It was Zac Brodney and Bennett Crane on No. 2 that started the afternoon with a 6-2 win.
At the two remaining courts, the Hoosiers looked to grab the doubles point but not before withstanding a rally from Michigan State. Indiana saw match points at both No. 1 and No. 3 at the same exact time and it was Ahmadi and Lam who prevailed for the 6-4 win.
Indiana cleaned up in singles when it won all matches, five of them in straight sets. Bennett Crane kicked it off with a win on No. 2, followed by wins from Vikash Singh, and Zac Brodney to secure the win for IU. At the No. 1 spot, Antonio Cembellin improved to 9-3 on the season with a 6-2, 6-3 win.
The two remaining courts would finish with tiebreakers. Brandon Lam on No. 6 outlasted his opponent in the second set tiebreaker and Andrew Redding completed a comeback with a third set tiebreak win to 10 points.
The Hoosiers get back at it tomorrow, Sunday, March 31, when they host No. 21 Michigan. First serve inside the IU Tennis Center is at Noon. Fans will receive tennis t-shirts.
