CORNER HITS
Indiana Greats Return
On January 22nd, 2019 IU Athletic Director Fred Glass named Kayla Bashore the head coach of Indiana Field Hockey. Bashore had stints at Columbia University, Transylvania University, and Brown University before returning to her alma mater. She graduated from Indiana in 2005, garnering All-America honors twice and earning a spot on the All-Big Ten list four times. Fellow field hockey alum Dani Castro has been added to Bashore's coaching staff as an Assistant Coach.
Eye, Eye, Captains
During the 2019 Preseason seniors Ciara Girouard and Kelsey Giese were named team captains as decided by the players. This is the second season at Girouard was named team captain.
Strength in Numbers
The Indiana Hoosiers will look to their seniors to guide the strength of the program. Grace Sensenig, Jessica Morford, Captain Ciara Girouard, and Andi Jackson will all be points of target in the midfield for Hoosiers to help carry the counterattack.
Having Sheridan Weiss on the front line provides experience to the up and coming powerful talent in the underclassmen on the attacking line.
Anchoring the backs is captain Kelsey Giese who has a powerful strike and proves to be a strong aid on penalty corners.
What to Watch For
Goalkeeper Sachi Ananias along with Ciara Girouard, and Hailey Couch were named to the Big Ten Preseason Watch List on Tuesday, Aug. 27. Over the summer, sophomore forward Couch saw the opportunity to play in the 2019 USA Field Hockey Young Women's Championships that were hosted in Harrisburg, Pa.
