SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – Indiana Field Hockey shutout Saint Louis under the lights on Friday night as they won 3-0. Rylee Pearson, Hailey Couch, and Mary Kate Kesler all scored for the Hoosiers. Junior goalkeeper Sachi Ananias tallied her first shutout of the season.
KEY MOMENTS
• Early in the first quarter, Indiana saw three shots on goal before Savannah Bucher fired a shot that found the back of the net to give the Hoosiers a 1-0 lead at the 6:28 mark. Hailey Couch scored her second goal of the season with a look straight on as Indiana took a 2-0 lead. Mary Kate Kesler tacked on to the lead with seconds left in the quarter after a pass from Kelsey Giese to push the lead to 3-0.
• Sachi Ananias recorded her only save of the night in the second quarter as Indiana took four shots throughout the second 15 minutes but couldn't get one past the goalkeeper. They took their 3-0 lead into halftime.
• A pair of penalty corners from the Billikens started the third quarter of the match but the staunch Indiana defense broke up the Saint Louis attack to preserve the 3-0 lead throughout the period.
• In the fourth quarter Indiana recorded four penalty corners but couldn't capitalize on them. Indiana would go on to blank the Billikens, 3-0.
NOTABLES
• With the victory, Indiana improves to 3-2 on the season.
• They are now 8-3 against the Saint Louis Billikens.
• The 11 shots in the first half is the most by the Hoosiers in any half this season. Indiana had the shot advantage, 16-3 including 11 that were on target.
• Senior captains Kelsey Giese and Ciara Girouard led the Hoosiers with four shots each.
• Junior midfielder Savannah Bucher scored her second goal of the season in the first quarter of the contest.
