Hoosiers Drop Friday Match to Michigan

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.— Indiana Field Hockey opened their weekend homestand by hosting No. 9 Michigan. The Wolverines offense proved to be too strong as the Hoosiers fell on Friday afternoon, 5-0.
KEY MOMENTS
• Michigan got off to a hot start in the first quarter the match by scoring two goals. Sofia Southam was able to snag a rebound and find the back of the net while teammate Emma Tamer's shot from a penalty corner was on target.
• In the closing minutes of the second quarter Guadalupe Fernandez Lacort of Michigan found Fay Keijer for the third Wolverines goal of the contest. Michigan would hold a 3-0 lead headed into halftime.
• During the fourth quarter, Indiana was able to contain the attack for the majority of the frame. The Wolverines scored their fourth in the 44th minute to go up 4-0 before the quarter break.
• Mary Kate Kesler had a good look on target in the fourth quarter but the Wolverines goalkeeper was there to save it. Michigan would tally one more goal in the last frame to capture a 5-0 victory.
NOTABLES
• The Hoosiers are now 4-4 overall, and 1-1 in the Big Ten Conference.
• Junior goalkeeper Sachi Ananias tallied nine saves in the contest on Friday. This is the most saves she has recorded in a game this season.
• Junior Rylee Pearson and Senior Sheridan Weiss earned their first starts of the season.
UP NEXT
Indiana will conclude the weekend when No. 14 Ohio State comes to town on Sunday, Sept. 29. The match is set for 12 p.m. EST.
