EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Indiana University baseball team fell on the road to Evansville, 5-4, on a frigid, Tuesday night at German American Bank Field at Charles H. Braun Stadium.
With the setback, the Hoosiers' record moves to 8-6 on the season overall, while the Purple Aces improve to 5-11.
KEY MOMENTS
• Trailing 1-0 in the third, the Hoosier knotted the game courtesy of a wild pitch from Evansville pitcher Niko Klebosits. After a fastball got past the UE catcher, CF Grant Richardson scampered home from third base to tie the game.
• Evansville responded with four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-1 lead. IU immediately cut the advantage in half in the top of the fourth on a two-run, two-out triple to right-center field off the bat of 3B Cole Barr.
• Indiana cut further into the Purple Aces' lead in the fifth on a sacrifice fly to left field from RF Ethan Vecrumba.
• With runners at first and second with no outs in the eighth, IU looked to have tied the game on a throwing error on an attempted double play. Instead, the umpires ruled LF Drew Ashley's slide at second base was illegal and rewarded UE a double play.
NOTABLES
• The loss snapped Indiana's six-game win-streak against Evansville.
• Ashley pushed his reached-base mark to 24-straight. Richardson also extended his on-base streak to 17-consecutive games.
• 1B Elijah Dunham's 31-game reached base streak was snapped.
• RHP Nathan Stahl pitched two innings of scoreless relief for Indiana, allowing just one hit with four strikeouts.
• LHP Braden Scott tossed three scoreless innings out of the bullpen for the Hoosiers, allowing just one hit with three strikeouts.
UP NEXT
The Hoosiers will return to Bloomington to host Cincinnati on Wednesday, Mar. 11 at Bart Kaufman Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET.
