
Richardson’s Walk-Off Homer Leads Hoosiers Past Penn State

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University baseball team earned a dramatic, come-from-behind victory over Penn State, 6-5, in seven innings on Sunday afternoon at Bart Kaufman Field in Bloomington, Ind.
With the team's sixth-straight win, the Hoosiers improve to 6-1 on the season and in Big Ten play. Penn State falls to 2-5 on the year and in league play.
KEY MOMENTS
• After a two-out walk and stolen base from INF Cole Barr in the bottom of the first, INF Paul Toetz plated the game's first run with an RBI single up the middle to give IU an early lead.
• Down 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth, INF Grant Macciocchi blasted his first home run as a Hoosier, hitting an 0-2 offering out of Bart Kaufman Field over the bullpen in left field.
• Three batters later after a strikeout and the second double of the day from Richardson, Barr notched another RBI with a single through the left side to cut the PSU lead to 5-3.
• In the bottom of the seventh, Macciocchi earned a one-out walk and was joined on base after DH Drew Ashley singled to right to bring the winning run to the plate.
• On an 0-1 count, Richardson hit a towering shot over the fence in left field, winning the game with his second homer of the season, a three-run shot.
• RHP Connor Manous (1-0) earned his first win of the season out of the bullpen. The right hander tossed 2.1 shutout innings, striking out three while not surrendering a hit.

• The walk-off homer was the first for the Hoosiers since Matt Lloyd's winner against Minnesota on Apr. 27, 2018.
• Ashley extended his on-base streak to 32-games dating back to the 2019 season with a single to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning.
