EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Indiana Hoosiers (5-2-1, 2-1-0 B1G) struck early in the second half to down the Michigan State Spartans (4-4-1, 0-1-1 B1G) by a score of 1-0 at DeMartin Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

KEY MOMENTS
• Junior keeper Roman Celentano collected four of his season-high six saves in the first half, with three Spartan shots coming on frame in the opening 20 minutes of play.
• Redshirt senior defender Spencer Glass had the first Indiana chance off a set piece. The ball rolled free to the Fort Wayne, Ind., native about 22 yards from goal. He let rip a left-footed shot that sailed high of frame.
• Freshman Patrick McDonald registered his first career goal to break the scoreless draw in the 48th minute. He cleaned up a loose ball inside the six-yard box and beat the Michigan State keeper high for the winner.
• Celentano faced his biggest test of the match in the 86th minute when senior midfielder Jack Beck cracked a shot from outside the box. The knuckleball forced the Naperville, Ill., native to dive to his left and make a one-handed save to preserve the shutout.

NOTABLES
• Indiana is 32-3-8 against Big Ten Conference opponents in regular season matches since the start of the 2016 campaign.
• Seven of the last eight Hoosiers wins over the Spartans have come by one goal dating back to the 2011 season.
• After the winner from McDonald, freshman have scored five goals for the Hoosiers this season. IU has received a pair of tallies each from midfielder Tommy Mihalic and forward Samuel Sarver. Hoosier freshman scored just one goal in the shortened 2020-21 season.
• Junior defender Brett Bebej returned to the starting lineup for the Hoosiers to make his 20th career start.
• The victory puts Indiana in a tie at the top of the Big Ten Conference standings with Maryland. The two sides have each earned two league wins for six total points.
• Indiana was outshot 16-4 in the match and only gave Michigan State redshirt senior keeper Hunter Morse one shot on net, the McDonald goal.
