
Hoosiers Head North for Matches against Minnesota, Wisconsin

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's soccer team (2-0-6, 0-0-1) begins a two-game road trip as they compete against the Minnesota Golden Gophers (4-4-1, 0-1-0) on Sept. 22 at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn. at 7:00 p.m. ET and the Wisconsin Badgers in Madison, Wis. on Sunday, Sept. 25.
BTN+ will provide a stream of both matches. Matt Privratsky (PxP) and Maya Aflakpi (Analyst) will be on the call in Minneapolis.
ABOUT THE GOLDEN GOPHERS
• The Minnesota women's soccer team is under the reins of head coach Erin Chastain who enters her second season at the helm. Chastain, UM alum and Minnesota, Chastain is 4-4-1 on the season after facing opponents like No. 7 ranked TCU.
• Minnesota fell, 1-0, to Nebraska in their Big Ten Conference home opener on Friday, Sept. 16. Sophomore forward Khyah Harper had the Gophers two shots on goal but couldn't capitalize against the cornhusker's defense.
• Junior midfielder Sophia Boman leads the Gopher's offense this season in goals (3), assists (2) and points (8).
• Senior goalkeeper Megan Plaschko has started all nine games, tallying 19 saves, four wins and four shutouts. Plaschko has totaled 810 minutes between the posts and holds a .78 goals against average and .731 save percentage.
• The Golden Gophers lead the series 18-11-2. The Hoosiers have won the last two matchups against the Gophers. The last time the two teams met was on Oct. 6., 2019 where IU defeated UM 1-0. Then senior capitan Chandra Davidson scored the lone goal and game-winner in the 36th minute of a long cross from teammate Oliwia Wos.
ABOUT THE BADGERS
• Wisconsin (6-1-2, 1-0-0) will face Purdue on Sept. 22 before hosting the Hoosiers on Sunday, Sept. 25 at McClimon Field.
• The Badgers defeated Iowa, 3-1, in their conference opener netting three goals in the second half. UW outshot the Hawkeyes 8-5 after they were held to one shot in the first half of the match.
• Senior midfielder Emma Jaskaniec leads the offense in points (15) and goals (7). Graduate goalkeeper Erin McKinney has started in all nine games, totaling 810 minutes and six wins. She has 39 saves on the season and five shutouts with a .89 goals against average and a .83 save percentage.
• The Badgers lead the series 15-11-3 against the Hoosiers. Indiana won the last match, 1-0, at Bill Armstrong Stadium on March 21, 2021, after Anna Bennett scored early in the 12th minute.
LAST TIME OUT
• Indiana had an opportunity early as sophomore defender Camille Hamm sent one into the bottom left of the net before Penn State's redshirt-senior keeper Katherine Asman made the save.
• Penn State's freshman forward Amelia White fired one in the bottom right corner in the seventh minute, but the Hoosier's sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Gerstenberg was there to contest it.
• Hamm took another attempt off a throw-in in the 22nd minute. She dribbled the ball, creating space before firing it in the top right of the net before Asman made the save.
• Indiana's defensive backline stepped up to the challenge in the second half as well as Gerstenberg who made crucial saves to keep Penn State off the board.
• Indiana's best opportunity in the second half came from redshirt-freshman Ava Akeel in the 87th minute. Akeel had an open look after she bypassed a Penn State defender in the middle of the 18-yard box. She right footed one into the bottom left corner before Penn State's Asman swooped in for the save.
• Gerstenberg came up with three clutch saves to keep the game tied after the Nittany Lions' fired eight shots on goal in the second half.
INDIANA DEFENSE
• The Hoosiers have shutout eight consecutive opponents, extending their scoreless streak to a total of 720 minutes this season, tying the program record for longest consecutive scoreless streak that was set in the 1993 inaugural season.

PLAYER PROFILE: JAMIE GERSTENBERG
• Gerstenberg, a member of the 2021 Big Ten All-Freshman Team, tied the Indiana program record with nine shutouts in her rookie campaign. She has posted a 10-3-7 record across 1,786 minutes in 20 starts. The Birkenwerder, Germany, native recorded 50 saves in 58 chances (0.862 save percentage).
• Through 23 career starts, Gerstenberg has posted 15 shutouts (plus two combined shutouts), including seven-straight shutouts to open the 2022 season. She holds a career goals against average of 0.36, which ranks tops in program history. Indiana has conceded one or fewer goals in 22-of-23 career starts made by Gerstenberg.
• She has competed for both the U17 and U19 German National Teams and was among those invited to camp prior to the 2022 FIFA U20 World Cup.
• Gerstenberg was named Co-Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week on August 23 and Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 20.
RANKED OPPONENTS
• Indiana has seven teams that are ranked second edition of the United Soccer Coaches rankings, highlighted by a couple of top-20 Big Ten opponents in No. 4 Rutgers and No. 8 Penn State.
• Ohio State (No. 21) found enough votes to reach top-25 status, while Wisconsin received votes and is sitting just outside the final rankings.
• In the non-conference slate, Indiana had a contest against No. 12 Notre Dame canceled and a 0-0 draw against No. 17 West Virginia. The Hoosiers also played No. 8 Penn State to a 0-0 draw in their conference opener.
• Since rankings were tracked during the 2001 season, Indiana has not played more than five ranked opponents in a single season. The Hoosiers took on five ranked foes in 2007, 2009 and 2015.
• The Hoosiers last toppled a ranked opponent on Sept. 8, 2017, with a 1-0 triumph over No. 23 SMU in Dallas, but did earn a result after a 0-0 draw against No. 7 Michigan on Oct. 3, 2021.
