Hoosiers Kick Off Season with Indiana Early Bird Meet

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana track and field team opens the indoor season with the Indiana Early Bird Meet on Friday afternoon at Gladstein Fieldhouse.
The Hoosiers will welcome 11 universities including Butler, Cincinnati, Indiana East, IUPUI (women), Kentucky, Missouri Baptist, Oakland City (Men), Pikeville, Principia, Saint Louis and Southern Indiana (men). The teams will compete across 32 different events beginning with the Pentathlon at 12 p.m. ET.

THE HOOSIER LINEUP
Pentathlon:
Freshmen Garrett Messer and Max Grangier will start the meet with a pentathlon. The Hoosiers will compete in the 60 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and the 1000 meter dash.
Sprints and Hurdles:
Olivia Gee will represent the Hoosiers in the 60-meter hurdles with John Colquitt racing on the men's side.
Indiana is stacked in the 60-meter dash with Serena Bolden, Symone Adams and Kylee Poulton and Ray Brodie, Gage Pratt and Antonio Laidler on the men's side.
Micah Camble and Jaylen Grimes will run the 400 meters with Otto De St Jeor, David Olowookere and Laidler running in the 300-meter race. On the women's side Cambell Wamsley and Poulton will compete in the 400 meter with Morgan Snow and Kristina Vincic in the 300 meter dash.
The Hoosiers will have six sprinters in the 200-meter dash with Tripti Tiwari, Adams and Poulton on the women's side and Brodie, Trelee Banks and Pratt race on the men's side.
Jumps: Bolden and Alex Smith will get things started off for the jumpers in the Long Jump event.
Returning jumpers Mahogany Jenkins, Taylor Schoonveld, Grayson Rolen and Eli Crouch will compete in the High Jump event. Freshman jumper Deepak Laungani will join them for his first collegiate appearance.
Pole Vault:
Four pole vaulters are set to compete this weekend with freshman Libby Saloga making her first appearance alongside Jessica Mercier and Taylor Jarosinski. Stone, a Big Ten Champion in the Pole Vault, won his fourth conference title indoors and was named Second Team All-American outdoors for IU, looks to start his season strong. Teammate Tyler Sierks will compete alongside him on the runway.
Throws:
Hunter Smith and Tyler Reyna will compete on the field in the weight throw event.
Distance and Mid-Distance:
The mid-distance crew made up of Maddie Russin, Keelan Grant, Jaylen Castillo and Nico Colchico will run the 600 meters in their season opener.
Mariah Wehrle, Andi VanMeter and Garrett Hicks will run the mile in their season debut. Freshman Jasmine Klopstad and Nate Killeen will make their first appearance in Gladstein in the event.
Four freshmen Aidan Lord, Owen Forberg, Clayton Guthrie and Brayden Henkle look to get started on the right foot as they run the 3000m in their first collegiate track event. Teammate Cole Raymond will also race alongside them.
The Hoosiers will field two men's and women's 4x400 relay teams. The first quartet will be Snow, Russin, Wamsley and Kenisha Phillips. The second is made up of Vincic, Gee, Tiwari and Parrish.
On the men's side, Camble, Colchico, Castillo and Novo Onovwerosuoke make up the first relay squad with Grimes, Olowookere, Grant and Pratt in the second.
