Track and Field Hosts Two-Day Indiana Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana track and field returns home to host the Indiana Invitational on Friday and Saturday in their final home meet of the indoor season at Gladstein Fieldhouse.

Last Time Out:
• Graduate student sprinter Kenisha Phillips broke a 22-year-old school record in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 52.37. She earned the Big Ten Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
• Phillips broke the 300-meter school record in her first appearance with the Hoosiers after running a 37.41 in the opening meet.
• Jessica Mercier finished second in the pole vault after clearing a height of 4.17m/13-8.25.
• Distance runners Brayden Henkle and Garrett Hicks recorded big time personal records and two top-10 finishes in the 3k race. Henkle won the event with a time of 8:19.94 while Hicks placed fifth with a time of 8:24.31.
• Freshman Garrett Messer had a big day today after setting two personal bests in the shot put and the 60-meter hurdles. Messer threw a distance of 14.34m/47-0.75 and He ran an 8.54 in prelims for another personal record to advance to finals and finished with a time of 8.44.
• Mid-distance runner Nico Colchico set a new personal best in his first sub-1:50 in the 800 meters. He finished second with a time of 1:49.96
• Makayla Hunter earned a Top-10 finish and a new personal best with a mark of 20.26m/66-5.75.
The Hoosier Lineup:
Indiana will have 62 student-athletes competing in the two-day meet this weekend alongside seven other institutions and unattached runners.
Sprints and Hurdles:
• All 20 sprinters will compete in the Indiana Invitational competing across six different events with the 60 meters, 300 meters, 200 meters, 60-meter hurdles, 400m and 600m races.
• Symone Adams, Kylee Poulton and Kristina Vincic will run the 60-meter dash with the men's side entering Trelee Banks, Ray Brodie, Antonio Laidler, Gage Pratt and Otto De St Jeor who will take on the competition in the short sprints in the 60 meters and the 200 meters.
• Olivia Gee and John Colquitt will compete in the 60-meter hurdles. Colquitt will also join the group in the 200-meter race.
• Morgan Snow will run the 400 meters with Zach Greller running on the men's side in his first meet of the season.
• Micah Camble, Novo Onovwerosuoke, Jaylen Grimes and Vincente Graiani will double up in the 400 meter and 600-meter competition.
The Hoosiers will enter two relays each in the men's and women's 4x400 relay.
Jumps:
• Serena Bolden, Paola Fernandez-Sola will compete in the Long Jump event with teammate Kelly Moran who is set to make her season debut. Bolden will also run the 60-meter dash.
• Eli Crouch, Deepak Laungani and Grayson Rolen look to clear some bars in the men's High Jump. Taylor Schoonveld and Mahogany Jenkins will look to do the same on the women's side.
Throws:
• Bridget Beyer, Makayla Hunter will return to the field after strong performances at the Commodore Challenge. Teammate Emily Herndon will compete in her first meet of the season while Hunter makes her season debut in the shot-put event.
• On the men's side, Sean Mockler, Hunter Smith and Tyler Reyna will throw the weight to end the day.
Distance and Mid-Distance:
• A combined nine men and women are set to run in their first race of the year in the distance squad.
• Phoebe Bates and Alyssa Shope will run the Mile in their season debut alongside Katelyn Winton and Mariah Wehrle.
• Continuing on the women's side, Amelia Dodds will run the 400 meters and the 600 meters with Veronica Hargrave in the mid-distance.
• Hargrave, Maddie Russin and Lily Myers look to put up a fight in the 800 meters while Emma Everhart-Deckard, Jasmine Klopstad, Tori Schmidt, Andi VanMeter, Mariah Wehrle and Katelyn Winton race in long distance 3k event.
• Keefer Soehngen will race the 600 meters in his first event of the meet, before joining the competive mid-distance group in the 800 meters along with Nico Colchico, Jaylen Castillo, Keelan Grant, Andrew Mangum, Cam Marshall, Parker Raymond and Martin Segurola.
• The men's distance squad will run seven in the 3k event with Owen Forberg, Clayton Guthrie, Austin Haskett, Brayden Henkle, Garrett Hicks, Aidan Lord and Cole Raymond.
• Skylar Stidman will represent the Hoosiers solo in the 5k race.
Pole Vault:
• Tyler Carrel, Tyler Sierks, Nathan Stone and Riley Johnston will be competing for the Hoosiers facing their first big competition of the season.
• Taylor Jarosinski, Jessica Mercier and Libby Saloga will compete in the pole vault on day one.
Multis:
Freshmen Max Grangier and Garrett Messer will compete in their first heptathlon with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, 1000 meters, 60-meter dash, long jump, shot put and the high jump.
Competition: Indiana will compete against eight other institutions including, Cincinnati, Dayton, Evansville, Indiana State, Marshall, Miami (Ohio) and Southern Illinois.
