IU Heads to Purdue in Battle for Golden Boot

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana Women's Soccer (6-3-2, 2-2-0 Big Ten) wraps up a three-game road stretch on Saturday as the Hoosiers travel to West Lafayette to battle Purdue (5-3-3, 0-2-2 Big Ten). Saturday marks the latest edition in the battle for the Golden Boot trophy. The game will be streamed live on BTN Plus.
SCOUTING PURDUE
• The Boilermakers have played the same four Big Ten opponents as the Hoosiers, drawing with Michigan State and Iowa and falling to Michigan and Nebraska. In non-conference action, Purdue went 5-1-1 including a win against No. 24 Louisville and a draw with No. 25 West Virginia. Kylie Hase is leading the Boilermakers in scoring with six goals on the season. Sarah Clark has added two scores with five assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Luce returned to action last weekend after she missed four games. Luce has a 0.81 goal against average and 26 saves in seven games.
• Purdue leads the all-time series, 13-4-5. However, since 2012, Indiana leads the series, 3-1-2. Under head coach Amy Berbary, IU has lost just once and never in West Lafayette. Berbary's record against the Boilermakers is 2-1-2. The teams have tied the last two seasons, including a 1-1 draw in 2017 in Bloomington. Maya Piper scored for the Hoosiers in the 25th minute before the Boilermakers found the equalizer in the 64th minute.
LAST TIME OUT
• Indiana traveled to Nebraska and Iowa last weekend. The Hoosiers fell to the Cornhuskers in overtime, 4-3, and dropped a 3-1 decision to Iowa on Sunday afternoon.
• In the overtime battle with Nebraska, IU saw goals from Abby Allen, Mykayla Brown and Melanie Forbes. On Sunday, Brown once again found the back of the net for the Hoosiers.
HOOSIER NOTES
• The Hoosiers offense leads the Big Ten in numerous categories - including goals (26), points (83), assists (31) and shots (172). Indiana also leads in points per game (7.55), goals per game (2.36) and assists per game (2.82).
• On a national level, Indiana ranks fifth in the country in assists and ninth in assists per game. In addition, the Hoosiers are tied for 12th in total goals scored and are eighth in total points.
• Indiana's 26 goals scored is the most in a single season since also scoring 26 in the 2016 campaign. Prior to that, it is the most since the 2013 squad set a program record with 43 goals.
• IU has seen 10 different Hoosiers find the back of the net this season, while 14 have registered at least one point. Seven different players have scored two or more goals, while four have scored at least three times.
• Abby Allen is leading the Hoosiers in scoring this season with seven goals and six assists, which is tied for first in the conference. Annelie Leitner is close behind Allen with four goals, including three game-winners, which is tied for first in the Big Ten and tied for 25th most in the nation.
• Senior Maya Piper has five assists on the season, a new career high. Piper picked up a pair of assists over the weekend.
• Goalkeeper Bethany Kopel's 57 saves leads the Big Ten.
